Week 4.2 Hikikomori – social trend or cultural trend
From my technorati search on hikikomori and Japanese culture, I have come across Minus-one’s blog entry on the film “All About Lily Chou-Chou“. It reminded me that the film was a groundbreaking presentation of the hikikomori phenomenon in Japan, linking it to violence and bullying at school.

Week 1.2 Hikikomori – social trend or cultural trend
On 14 January 2006, Hong Kong Christian Service released a survey report on Hong Kong urban hermits. It was estimated that about 18,500 young adults and 540 students are socially withdrawn. A previous survey by the service put the number at 6,000 in early 2005.
